Superdrug "Mud Therapy" Deep Cleansing Mud Mask

After having a bit of an adverse reaction to the Superdrug White Chocolate face mask, I was avoiding the Superdrug own brand face masks. However, I kept hearing really good things about the Mud Therapy ones by Superdrug, and kept telling myself I probably wouldn't react badly to another mask, so I bit the bullet and purchased this one day last week.

 

 

 

 

"The Superdrug Deep Cleansing mud mask, with natural mineral benefits of dead sea mud naturally detoxifies and remineralises. This clay based mask will help promote a clearer complexion, leaving skin softer and rejuvenated".

 

I personally prefer clay masks to any other, although I know some people can find them a bit drying. As is typical with clay masks, this dries fairly quickly on your skin, leaving it difficult to move your face and speak! The mask itself is a really nice consistency - it's thick without being difficult to work with. It's a typical 'mud mask' colour, it doesn't look attractive on the face but it certainly does what it says!

 

The tube recommends you leave this on for 10/15 minutes so that's how long I left it for. In this time, it had completely dried and gone hard on my face. After rinsing it off (with some difficulty!) my skin immediately felt smoother, and in the next few days I noticed my skin looked a lot more even, as I sometimes suffer with red patches on my cheeks. This mask seemed to have calmed them down a lot! I hadn't changed anything else in my routine, simply used this mask, so I can make a good assumption it was the mask calming down the redness.

 

I would definitely recommend this. It's quite cheap and it has worked really well for me. I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the Superdrug packet masks, and I know there's quite a few people who aren't keen, but don't let that put you off these ones as they are literally worlds apart!

Superdrug Superfruits Exfoliating Mask

This is my last face mask post, and I have saved the best one until last! If you want to read my posts about the other face masks I have tried, you can do so here.

 

The mask I have for you today is the Superfruits Exfoliating Mask.

 

 

 

Ideal for all skin types, this mask contains raspberry, cranberry and blueberry fruit extracts. It is a clay mask which contains strawberry seeds to gently exfoliate the skin.

 

 

The mask itself is a lilac-y colour, and is quite thick in consistency at first. However, when you begin to apply it to your face, it appears to thin out a bit, making it really easy to spread onto your skin. You can feel the strawberry seeds exfoliating your skin as you apply it, and again when you take it off.

 

It also smells amazing - very fruity, which is a favourite scent of mine.

 

As it is the last face mask post for the time being, I thought I would include a really rather attractive picture of myself:

Anyway, as you can see, the mask is purple, but once it has dried (about 10-15) minutes later, it turns a white/grey colour, and is quite hard (which is normal for a clay mask) making it quite difficult to move your face or talk!

 

Once washed off, my skin immediately felt softer and smoother, and did for about 2/3 days afterwards too.

 

This is definitely my favourite from the masks I have tried, and would recommend this to anyone. Aside from the white chocolate mask, I have enjoyed using the Superdrug face masks, and think they are really good value for money :)

Superdrug White Chocolate Mousse Mask

Hey everyone.

Another face mask post! Don't worry, there's only one more after this one ;).

 

The other day, I tried out the White Chocolate Mousse Mask from Superdrug:

 

 

 

This mask contains "cocoa butter, almond oil and shea butter to feed your skin and leave it feeling soft and smooth". I had really high hopes for this one as I am a massive fan of the white chocolate mask from Montagne Jeunesse, as it smells amazing.

 

Sorry for the blurry picture, but hopefully it gives you an idea of what the mask looks like.

 

The consistency is thick, which I expected and also a nice creamy white colour. However, for me, this is where the positives end. The first thing I noticed was the smell. It does not smell like white chocolate at all! It smells more like yoghurt, which I know is not the worst smell in the world, when you buy a "white chocolate mask" you expect it to smell something like white chocolate.

 

After I had got over the smell, I began to apply it to my face. It was easy to work with and easily spreadable, but the moment I put it onto my skin, I immediately felt a strange burning sensation! I was tempted to remove it straight away, but I thought it would maybe ease off in a few seconds so I left it on. After about 3/4 minutes of having the mask on my face, the burning sensation was getting worse, so I removed the mask. I don't have particularly sensitive skin, and have never had a reaction like that to a face mask before, so I was in no doubt that it was the mask and not my skin.

 

I ummed and ahhed about whether to post this because I don't like doing negative reviews, but I thought this was generally a terrible product. When you buy a face mask, you don't expect it to burn or sting your face!

 

I obviously did not leave it on long enough to be able to comment on what effect it had on my skin, but I for one will definitely be staying well clear of this. It's a shame because the previous two Superdrug masks I have tried have been wonderful. I will probably buy Superdrug masks in the future, but definitely not this one.

Superdrug Sugar & Spice Self-Heating Face Mask

Hey everyone!

If you saw my post about the Superdrug Peel-Off Face Mask, then you'll know I recently picked up four of their masks to try. One of the ones that I bought was this one - the Sugar & Spice Self Heating Mask.

 

 

 

This claims to include caramel and mediterranean clay to brighten and soften skin, and recommends use with all skin types. I was drawn to this mask because I absolutely love the smells of caramel and cinnamon, and this mask contains both of them!

 

I had also never tried a self heating mask before so I was interested to see what they did!

 

 

As you can see, the colour is pretty much what you'd expect from this mask. The consistency was quite thick, but not thick enough so that you couldn't easily spread it onto your face. It also smelled absolutely delicious, exactly like caramel and vanilla. I recommend everyone goes and tries this simply for the smell!

 

The instructions say to splash the face with warm water before applying the mask - I assume this has something to do with the self-heating properties? Anyway, once applied, you can feel the mask immediately heating up, but not so it's unbearably hot, just a nice relaxing warmth. The heat lasts for about 2-3 minutes before it settles down just to the feel of a normal mask.

 

Normally with clay masks, as they dry they become stiff and you can't really speak without them cracking, but I found that this actually got runnier as time went on! I don't know if it was because I applied it whilst I was in the bath or not, but that was the only downside I found to this!

 

Afterwards, my skin felt softer and smoother. I was also suffering with quite a few blackheads on my nose when I used this, and I actually found that they were less noticeable after this.

 

Overall,  I enjoyed using the masks, and would recommend it!

Superdrug Fruit Sorbet Antioxidant Peel Off Mask

Hey everyone,

I don't know about you lot, but I personally love peel-off face masks. I just think there's something really cool about being able to peel the mask off rather than washing it off, me being the child that I am ;)

 

I was actually looking for the Montagne Jeunesse Peel Off Passion mask in Superdrug, but I couldn't see it anywhere. However, I noticed that Superdrug had their own branded face masks, and this one looked very similar to the Montagne Jeunesse one, so I picked up this one. They were actually on 4 for 3 when I got them, so I have 4 different ones which I may do seperate posts on if anyone is interested :)

 

 

 

I personally prefer the packaging of these to the Montagne Jeunesse ones - as much as the MJ ones are recognisable, the Superdrug ones appear much more modern. The mask is cruelty-free as well as being paraben-free, which is always nice to see!

 

It contains natural fruit extracts to leave the skin "revitalised and protected".

 

 

The actual consistency of the mask is pretty much the same as the Montagne Jeunesse one - it's a pinky colour and is quite sticky, and makes you look as though you've burnt your face when you apply it (hence the no pictures of it on my face!) It does apply quite easily though, but you do need to rinse your hands immediately to stop it from getting stuck everywhere.

 

The mask smells gorgeous too - it simply smells of fruits and I personally find it a really relaxing mask to have on. On the packet it says to leave it for 10-20 minutes until you should peel it off, but I found that I had to leave mine on for around half an hour before it had dried fully. Peeling the mask off is really simple, as long as you don't get it in your eyebrows (!).

 

Afterwards, my skin felt really smooth and soft, and the smell lingered for a couple of hours after, which I didn't mind but I know some people don't enjoy products which linger.

 

Overall, I would really recommend this mask. There isn't much of a price difference between Montagne Jeunesse and this one (around 2p) so it's up to you which you want to choose, there's really not much difference!

Montagne Jeunesse Peel Off Passion Face Mask

Hello everyone!

I was browsing in Boots the other day when I spotted a stand of Montagne Jeunesse face masks. I am familiar with these and have used a few in the past and have always been impressed with the results. I spotted this 'Passion Peel Off' one, and knew I had to have it. I am a big fan of peel off face masks, there's just something fun about them :)

Apologies for the fact the pictures are taken on top of this months Glamour magazine, haha, they were spontaneous pictures! The packaging of these I actually think is quite outdated, but it makes them recognisable to people which is a good thing. They are simply a sachet with a rip off top, which is simple and mess-free. The instructions are also fool-proof - cleanse, apply, relax and peel. From the image on the front of the packet, I was expecting a bright purple colour, but instead, I got this:

It is a red gel type consistency which I was quite surprised about, but it was surprisingly easy to apply and was not at all sticky. There is not a picture of it on my face because it made me look like I was badly sunburnt! It smells absolutely gorgeous - some face masks smell nothing like they are supposed to but this one actually did smell like pomegranate and raspberry. Anyway, this product claims to deep-clean pores, and actually it really does live up to this claim. I applied this last night and today my skin is extremely smooth and my pores do actually look less noticable and free from any dirt.

The peeling off was another story altogether, although I don't think I left mine on long enough for it to dry fully. It didn't come off in one piece, it came off in lots of tiny pieces, but I will forgive this since my skin feels amazing today! If I had left it to dry fully I don't think I would have had an issue so I can't blame the product really. Also, word of warning, put this nowhere near your eyebrows as I did by accident and it stung so much trying to peel it off haha! In case you were wondering, this is what it looked like after I had peeled it off (quite a gross unneccesary picture but oh well ;))



Overall I really like this. I have had nothing but good experiences with Montagne Jeunesse face masks, and will definately be buying some more. I really recommend the Strawberry Souffle, for an even complexion, the White Chocolate for a deep cleanse (this also smells amazing, and you WILL want to eat it) and the Blemish Mud to help any blemishes you may have.
