Rimmel Apocalips | Celestial

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few days, the chances are you will have heard of the new 'Apocalips' by Rimmel. Amazing name aside, these are basically a liquid lipstick (they're being labelled a 'lip lacquer' by Rimmel)  - the pigmentation of a lipstick with the high-shine finish of a gloss.

 

 

 

 

The packaging of these is quite space-age esque, something which I personally really like. I also really like the applicator which comes with this - it's a perfect size and the shape of it makes applying the product really easy.

 

I have the shade 'celestial', which is a sort of muted pinky-red kind of colour which will suit most skin tones. There are 8 shades altogether, and I will definitely be picking up some more shades after trying this one out!

 

This has a really creamy consistency which doesn't pull or drag on the lips, and makes it perfect for people like myself who suffer from dry lips. The high-shine finish doesn't last all that long - I'd say around an hour/hour and a half, but once the shine has faded you are left with a beautiful lip stain which lasts for around 6 hours.

 

I am a big fan of these so far, and will definitely be adding more shades to my makeup bag. The only negative I have found about this is the fact that it smells really odd. I can't quite put my finger on what it smells like, but it's something I'm just not personally a fan of. In saying that, the smell doesn't linger after you've applied this, so don't let it put you off!

Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Liner

I have been using the Urban Decay 24/7 liners for around 4 years now, and until now I had found nothing that even came close to matching them in terms of pigmentation and lasting power. I had been seeing a lot of reviews of this popping up, and many people were saying it was comparable to the Urban Decay ones, so I picked one up. In all honesty, I wasn't expecting much, but for £3.99 I decided it was worth a go.

 

 

 

 

 

Rimmel claim that this eyeliner delivers "high intensity colour which lasts". There are seven colours to choose from, ranging from this traditional black colour, to a bright blue. I chose back to start as I use black eyeliner everyday, and as much as I love the Urban Decay liners, at £13 a pop, they are slightly expensive when you get through eyeliner as fast as I do! This, however, is almost exactly the same as the Urban Decay ones.

 

The pencil itself is plastic rather than wood, which makes sharpening easier, and creates less wasted product.

 

In terms of pigmentation, I genuinely have nothing bad to say about this. It's beautifully pigmented with just one swipe, and even though I apply this to my waterline, it does last an amazingly long time (around 5/6 hours), something which I struggled to find with cheaper liners in the past.

 

I absolutely love this product. I will definitely be purchasing this over the Urban Decay ones in the future, as it's almost £10 cheaper and is barely any different in terms of quality.

Rimmel Clear Complexion Pressed Powder

This is a product I actually picked up completely by accident. I actually meant to purchase Rimmel's Stay Matte powder, but I was in a rush and accidentally got this one instead. I had never read any reviews or even heard about this before, but as I had already bought it I thought I'd give it a whirl.

 

 

 

 

The packaging is pretty standard for a pressed powder really - it has a clear lid, although the base is a really lovely bluey green colour. It's not amazing packaging, but it's not the worst I've ever seen. It feels quite flimsy, so I wouldn't want to be throwing it around in case the powder smashed inside it.

 

I have the shade "Transparent" and from looking at the Boots and Superdrug websites, that is actually the only shade it comes in. This is supposedly a translucent powder which won't add any colour to your face, but I would imagine this might not work too well on darker skin tones.

 

Rimmel claim this gives a "pure and shine-free finish for up to 5 hours". They also say it controls shine and mattifies skin. I actually like that they say it will last 5 hours - none of these claims that state the product will last for 24 hours, when 9 times out of 10, it just isn't true!

 

I find this product does last around 4/5 hours before I feel it needs touching up, mainly around my nose and on my chin which are the oiliest parts of my face.

 

I usually suffer from quite dry skin but lately it's been getting more and more oily so I was keen to see if this would mattify my skin. I find that it does help to keep oil at bay, but if you want something that keeps oil at bay throughout the entire day, then I probably wouldn't recommend this. I tend to touch up once or twice during a typical day.

 

Overall, I do think it's a good product. I love the fact they are truthful about the longevity of it, although I do wish it lasted slightly longer!

 

I probably wouldn't repurchase this, simply because I do prefer the Stay Matte powder, but I know some people don't get on with that so this may be a good alternative.

Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipstick - Shade 16

I have heard some mixed reviews on the Kate Moss for Rimmel lipstick range, so thought I would try them out for myself, seeing as Superdrug currently have a 3 for 2 offer on all cosmetics!

 

 

 

The packaging is matte black, with Kate's signature embossed in pink on the cap, with Rimmel's crown logo on the top of the cap. I really like the packaging as it seems more expensive than the product actually is.

 

I picked up shade 16, which is a yellow-based coraly pink colour:

 

 

 

This is not the most pigmented lipstick I have ever used, however, this suits me fine as I don't often wear a very bold, bright lip. The consistency is very creamy which I love, as they don't dry out my already-dry lips as some lipsticks do.

 

The staying power isn't amazing on these, but I personally have yet to find a lipstick which does stay on all day so maybe it's just me! They tend to last around 2/3 hours on me. They also have a slight scent, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is they smell of! I know that it's probably a scent that will put some people off these, as it's not the most pleasant of smells, but I can live with it.

 

Overall, I probably would recommend this as it's a gorgeous colour and it doesn't dry out the lips. However, if you're after a bold lip that will last you all day, then look somewhere else as these just will not do the job!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Instant Radiance Shimmer Touch

Hey everyone!

This is a fairly new product from Rimmel, and it is part of the 'Wake Me Up' range. Now I am not the hugest fan of the famous Wake Me Up foundation, so I don't know what drew me to this, but something did and I am very glad!

 

Essentially what this is, is a highlighter and Rimmel say it "instantly lifts from fatigue and illuminates any part of your complexion". Although it is mainly used on the brow bones or cheeks, this can be mixed in with your foundation to give an all-over glow.

 

 

 

There are two shades available at the minute in the UK - Shimmering Sand and Radiant Rose. I picked up Shimmering Sand as I found Radiant Rose to be slightly too pinky for my skin tone. Shimmering Sand is a nude shimmery colour, which is great for highlighting. Radiant Rose would probably be best used as a blush.

 

 

 

The packaging fits in well with the rest of the Wake Me Up range with it's orange accents, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of the white plastic as mine is getting grubby already! However, I do like the squeezy tube as when it's almost run out you can cut the packaging to get the last scraps :)

 

In terms of colour payoff, you really do only need the tiniest amount! I am not a huge fan of the glitterbomb face look, so I don't use much at all but it is easy to build up. It wears for roughly 7/8 hours which is good, and it wears off evenly without looking patchy. For the swatch above I literally just used the tiniest blob of product and as you can see, it shows up nicely.

 

You can also mix this in with a foundation to give a nice glow all over your face.

 

Overall I really like this product. I do prefer the Shimmering Sand colour to the rose one, but that is personal preference as I tend to reach for matt blushers rather than shimmery ones. This is great as a highlighter, and I would recommend it :)

Products I've Changed My Mind About

I really enjoy reading these types of posts, so I thought I'd do my own. There's only 3 products that are on here because most of the stuff I buy, I look into to decide if I really want/need it. These 3 are all products that I originally liked, and all 3 of them have their own reviews which I will link in this post. However, after using these for a longer period of time, I have changed my mind about them. Just to be clear, I don't think these are bad products generally, they just don't work for me - some of you may love them, and that's fine, after all, I loved them when I first found them!

#1. Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

I first bought this because of the amount of hype it was getting in the blogging community. If you read my original review, I said that I wouldn't repurchase it due to the shimmer it has in it. However, I have been using this again because it was the only foundation I had to hand when I ran out of the Rimmel Cream Gel one I normally use. Having used it again, I can now see that the shimmer is not as noticeable in natural light as I originally thought it was, and it also helps to make you look more awake. I always liked the formula of this foundation, and that hasn't changed, but I have gotten used to the shimmer in it, and I can now see why so many people rave about this. I would purchase this again. :)

#2. Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover

I really liked this when I first bought it, and for a while after. I still do really like the concept, but I just feel this one is slightly too overpriced. I had a cheaper version ages and ages ago that I picked up from Home and Bargains for about 99p, which I really liked so I thought I'd try this more expensive one to see if I could see a dramatic difference. In all honesty, the only difference is that it smells nicer when you use it. The Bourjois one has a black sponge so you can't see the product build up in it, but you can tell when you try to remove your nail polish. If you have ever removed glitter polish with it, you will end up with glitter on your nails each time you use it after. Don't get me wrong the cheaper version obviously did this too, but at 99p compared to £4.99, it's a little easier to swallow. Also with this, it claims you don't need to use a cotton pad, but I found that this left a greasy residue all over my fingers, which is probably the oils within it to help look after your nails, but I hate the greasy feeling, and so had to wash my hands after every time I used this, which kind of defeated the point of it in my opinion.

#3. Dove Maximum Protection Deodorant

Ah, I'm so gutted this is in here. I LOVED this at first - it stopped sweat, there was no white marks and it kept you smelling fresh all day long. However, after using it for a few weeks, I think my body became immune to it or something (I don't know if this actually happens but I like to think so :P), and it just didn't stop me sweating anymore. This being said, if it works for you, then I am jealous. Yes, it's quite expensive for a deodorant, but it genuinely is good, as long as you're not like me and your body doesn't reject it :P. Obviously, I am no longer using this and I am back with my trusty Mitchum deodorant, which works perfectly fine for me still :)

I hope this was interesting to some people. I wanted to do a post, but I wasn't feeling a product review so I thought I'd do something a little different as I always enjoy reading these posts.

Rimmel Match Perfection Cream Gel Foundation

Hello everyone!

Firstly, sorry for the lack of posts this week - my mum and dad went on holiday on Monday so I have been left in charge of my 16 year old brother (getting him up and ready for school etc) and I have also been working a lot this week, so I just haven't had time to post!

Anyway, my parents get back later on tonight so everything is back to normal as of tomorrow!

Anyway, today I have a new foundation for you! I had been using Bourjois Healthy Mix for a couple of months, and although I really liked it and would recommend it, I like to change foundations quite regularly just to see if there is any better ones and to try some new releases etc (am I the only one who does this?! haha). When the Bourjois one ran out, I went into Boots to have a look, actually with the intention of getting the Healthy Mix Serum, as I had heard some really good things about it, but when I swatched this Rimmel one, I had to have it.

The packaging of this is really lovely - it is a glass jar (very similar to the packaging of Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse) with a shimmery blue lid and shimmery blue lettering. It is quite heavy though, so probably would be a bit awkward for chucking in your handbag. Also, when you open the blue lid, you see a further white 'lid', which I presume is for hygeine reasons, and is something I really like. To me, it looks like Rimmel have put a lot of thought into the product.

I have shade 103 True Ivory - there is only 5 shades in the range, meaning that if you have extremely pale or dark skin then this won't be much use to you. I was lucky enough to find a shade which matched my skin, although a lot of the shades looked a little on the orange side.

This is a "cream gel" foundation, which Rimmel claim gives a "natural looking flawless finish", "evens skin tone" and "mimics skin tone and texture". The consistency of the foundation is quite strange. I expected it to be quite heavy and "gel-like", but it is the complete opposite. It feels almost like a gel in the jar, but once applied to the face it is extremely light and natural looking. It feels quite wet when first applied, but dries fairly quickly so this isn't a problem.

The foundation gives a light-meduim coverage which I personally like, but I appreciate some people may prefer a heavier coverage. If I have any blemishes, I simply apply concealer to the problem areas and this covers them nicely. This foundation gives a dewy look to the skin but it's not overly shiny. If you didn't like the dewy look, it is easily mattified with a powder anyway. The foundation lasts on my face for about 7/8 hours, so it's not as long-lasting as some other foundations out there, but this doesn't bother me much because I love everything else about this foundation!

I have quite dry patches on my face, and although Bourjois Healthy Mix did cover them up quite well, this almost makes them disappear altogether. I like how natural it looks, and I like that it gives a dewy finish.

Because it is quite hydrating and because it covers up my dry patches so well, I probably wouldn't recommend this to people who have oily skin, but I would definately recommend it to anyone with dry skin like myself. I will priobably repurchase this once it runs out, because it is one of the only ones I have tried which covers up my dry patches. Plus, its super cheap too which is a bonus!

Rimmel Cream Gel Foundation is £6.99 and is avaibale from Boots, Superdrug (not on their website - anyone else think the Superdrug website is rubbish?!) and all major supermarkets.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

First, apologies for the two foundation reviews so close together. I have been using this foundation for about a month now and haven't blogged about it yet because I wanted to give it a fair try before voicing my opinions. Now almost everyone has blogged about this, but I wanted to share with you what I thought about it.

The foundation comes in a thick glass bottle, which I like, with a bright orange cap and an orange pump dispenser. The glass bottle is embossed with the Rimmel logo on one side. I personally like packaging of this, it looks quite expensive, and although the bottle is glass, it is thick and looks very sturdy.

As you can see I use shade 100 Ivory.

Rimmel's Wake Me Up Foundation claims to "visibly reawaken and illuminate skin with a radiant glow and a flawless, natural looking finish". It contains an SPF of 15, which is a bonus in my book as I like to have some kind of sun protection on my face daily, and to be included in a foundation is just more convenient. The dispenser makes it very easy to get out the right amount of product, and I tend to use about 1-2 pumps for my entire face. The consistency is perfect for me; it's quite thick but I prefer this to a foundation which is too runny, though it is quite difficult to blend  in properly with your fingers - you will probably need a foundation brush/sponge.

Now, onto the one thing I dislike about this product, and you all probably know what I'm coming to here. The shimmer. Don't get me wrong, it's not like a glitterball or anything, and in fact it is barely noticable in certain lights, but under artificial lighting, you can see it. In fact, somebody I work with actually said to me "you have glitter on your face" (cringe moment!). The shimmer I think actually is a shame because other than that I do like this foundation. I still use it most days as I can't bring myself to buy another foundation when I have practically a full bottle here. It's fine for a night out or something like that because the coverage is amazing, just not if you dislike the glitter effect and are going to be under a lot of artificial light. The claim of reawakening skin and illuminating it, I believe it lived up to. My skin did look brighter and I did look more awake, which was good.

Overall, I probably wouldn't repurchase this. Don't get me wrong, I will use it, and I do like it APART FROM THE SHIMMER. Rimmel, bring this exact foundation out without the shimmer, and I am sold. Unfortunately I am not a fan of having glitter on my face, which is a shame :(

Kind of a mixed review here, and apologies for the lengthy review but I wanted to share that I do like it. Just not the shimmer.

FOTD #1

I've been debating whether or not to do this for a few days now. Even though I love make-up and beauty, I am not the most confident person in the world, and I certainly don't photograph well! However, you'll just have to excuse the poor picture and my poor skin cause I'm having a slight 'mare at the min with my skin, I'm just at the end of a bad breakout (eek!).

This is pretty much my everyday look, nothing too special or interesting. I don't wear anything on my lips as I hate lipstick (shock horror!) and don't particularly like lip gloss. Occassionally I will have to resort to lip balm but that is rare.

(By the way, my pictures aren't very good because I'm having to rely on my iPhone, my camera broke!)

I've just realised how boring my make-up is haha! I tend not to bother with eye shadow or lipstick/lipgloss so it doesn't actually take me that long to do this. Maybe I should start being more creative! Anyone know where would be a good place to start?

All of my make-up is high street brands tbh, though I am saving up for some more high-end brands at the min, might take me a while though as I keep getting distracted by the 3 for 2 in Boots!
