MAC Lipstick in Hue

 

 

 

 

Would you believe, this is the very first mac lipstick I have ever tried! I am not one for wearing lipstick, and as much as I was desperate to try a mac lipstick, I begrudged paying £14.00 for one when I knew I probably wouldn't get much wear from it. After much deliberating, I decided to bite the bullet and buy one, but opted for a nude, subtle colour which I knew I'd be brave enough to wear. I was choosing between this one and Crème Cup, but in the end I decided on Hue as it seemed the more wearable of the two!

 

Hue is a glaze finish lipstick, which mac describe as "low-colour impact with sheen-style finish". Hue is described as a 'soft pale pink', which is a perfect description. It is a relatively nude colour with just a hint of pink which would suit most skin tones.

 

It feels really moisturising on the lips, which I love as I suffer with quite dry lips and I don't want to be wearing something which dries them out further. One thing I will say is this does accentuate any dry patches on my lips so I have to make sure I scrub them thoroughly before I apply this. It also doesn't last all that long, probably 2/3 hours, but I'm told this is typical of glaze finishes and the other finishes tend to last a lot longer!

 

Overall I am impressed with the formulation of this and I absolutely love the colour, but would I buy another mac lipstick? Maybe, but only if it was a special or unique colour. I've not been absolutely bowled over by it's staying power, and I think there are good alternatives on the high street, as I think £14.00 is a huge amount of money for a lipstick. I can see why so many people love them, but I think I'll be sticking to cheaper lipsticks for now!

L'Oreal Rouge Caresse Lipstick in Tempting Lilac

I am not a massive fan of lipsticks - I love how they look on other people, but I always seem to dislike how they look on me. If I do wear a lip product, it will be a nude or subtle colour rather than a bright, bold lip.

 

I have a few of the Revlon Lip Butters, and I always find myself reaching for them. I had heard a lot of comparisons between the Lip Butters and this offering from L'Oreal, and so I decided to purchase one of them, in the shade 'Tempting Lilac'.

 

 

 

 

 

 

"A flutter of kissably soft, lightweight feeling colour. It's delicate texture glides onto lips creating a veil of colour with a luminous shine".

 

This is essentially a product which claims to have the pigmentation of a lipstick, but with the moisturising properties of a lipbalm. Whilst it's not quite as pigmented as you'd expect from a standard lipstick, it does have a relatively good amount of colour payoff. Personally I like this as I am not a bold lip lover, but I would say it's pretty buildable should you wish.

 

Despite the name "Tempting Lilac", to me, this isn't really a lilac at all. It's more of a mauve colour, but personally I love it. It's a very neutral colour and I think it would suit most skin tones.

 

These are extremely similar in consistency to the Revlon Lip Butters - they are really hydrating and leave a lovely sheen on your lips. I would say these are even more moisturising than the Revlon ones though!

 

The glossiness lasts around an hour on me, but the colour stays on fairly well - I'd say it lasts around 4 hours before I feel the need to touch up. It also wears off evenly so it won't look ridiculous if you forget to take it out with you for touch ups!

 

These are available in 10 different colours, and I will definitely be picking up some more! I do think they're a little on the pricey side, but they're definitely worth it!

Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipstick - Shade 16

I have heard some mixed reviews on the Kate Moss for Rimmel lipstick range, so thought I would try them out for myself, seeing as Superdrug currently have a 3 for 2 offer on all cosmetics!

 

 

 

The packaging is matte black, with Kate's signature embossed in pink on the cap, with Rimmel's crown logo on the top of the cap. I really like the packaging as it seems more expensive than the product actually is.

 

I picked up shade 16, which is a yellow-based coraly pink colour:

 

 

 

This is not the most pigmented lipstick I have ever used, however, this suits me fine as I don't often wear a very bold, bright lip. The consistency is very creamy which I love, as they don't dry out my already-dry lips as some lipsticks do.

 

The staying power isn't amazing on these, but I personally have yet to find a lipstick which does stay on all day so maybe it's just me! They tend to last around 2/3 hours on me. They also have a slight scent, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is they smell of! I know that it's probably a scent that will put some people off these, as it's not the most pleasant of smells, but I can live with it.

 

Overall, I probably would recommend this as it's a gorgeous colour and it doesn't dry out the lips. However, if you're after a bold lip that will last you all day, then look somewhere else as these just will not do the job!

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

Hello everyone,

There's no doubt that you will have all heard of these, and most probably seen a review or six on them too. They are Revlon's newest release, and have been labelled a dupe (or rip-off) of Clinique's Chubby Sticks. I haven't tried the Clinique ones so this isn't a comparison post, it will only be a review of the Revlon Balm Stain.

The shade I have is 015 Cherish (it says Cherish Devotion on the bottom but on the website it just calls it Cherish - ah well, Cherish it is!), but there are roughly 10 shades to choose from (I don't know exactly because the Revlon UK website doesn't have these on yet - the US website shows 12 shades but I'm not sure if we have all of these in the UK). Revlon describe these as "a pampering balm fused with a lightweight lipstain.. it gives softer, smoother lips with the perfect flush of colour which lasts hour after hour".

The stick itself reminds me a lot of them wax crayons you used to have as a kid haha! You can either apply straight to the lips like I did, or if you were a make-up artist for example you could use a seperate brush to make it more hygenic. It is very easy to apply, and the colour payoff is amazing. In the picture above I applied one 'coat' of the balmstain and my lips were already quite a vibrant shade of pink. I like the combination of a lipbalm and a stain because the only reason I never got along with lipstains was because of how dry they made my lips.

The colour stays on for around 4-5 hours on me, which I think is good for a lip product as I normally have to apply every 2-3 hours. The product is very moisturising, and when it wears off, it just fades rather than doing the annoying thing of going rather patchy.

Overall, I was really impressed with this. The colour payoff was really good and the colour lasted well on me as well. It kept my lips moisturised for hours and also the packaging and design of the product were useful for me too. I like how easy it was to apply and I will definately be purchasing some more shades!

Maybelline Coloursensational Popstick - 030 Pink Lollipop

Hello everyone!

I've been rather bad at posting regularly this past week, but I think I'm back into blogging this week and so today I have a 'Coloursensational Popstick' from Maybelline for you.

I actually saw an advert for these on the telly so I presume they are quite new, however I don't know for definate. I really liked the look of them so last time I was in Boots I picked up this one. There were 5 shades on offer in my Boots - Pink Lollipop, Pink Sugar, Cherry Pop, Citrus Slice and Crystal Pink. I swatched every colour on my hand and they showed virtualy no pigmentation, which looking back should have been a warning sign, but they just looked too cool to leave on the shelf, so I chose the brightest shade in the hope that this would be the most pigmented. They actually remind me of something I used to have as a child so I think that is what drew me to them.

The packaging of these is a lot like the Revlon Lip Butter packaging, except the lid is not quilted - the metal part looks exactly the same. Some people are going to think this is tacky and childish but I do quite like it and it seems very sturdy so you wouldn't have to worry about the lipstick getting damaged if you threw it into your bag.

Pink Lollipop is a bright, blue toned pink with blue/purple shimmer in the bullet. It is nearly see-through - it's a jelly like lipstick, but the colour is still really bright (if that makes sense!). To apply it feels just like a lipbalm, which I liked, but for me, this is where the positives end. The colour payoff is virtually nothing from this, and seeing as this is the brightest colour, I can't imagine the other shades being any better. Hence why I haven't included a swatch picture as there isn't much to see! They do smell AMAZING though, like sweets, haha! It does make your lips soft, but for £7.19 I do think it is very overpriced. It is essentially the same as a lip balm, which you can get a decent one for about £1.00. I think these are really just for the novelty value more than anything. They look funky, and if they were cheaper I would probably repurchase, but I think I'll stick to chapstick for now!

I hate doing negative reviews, but I don't want to put this on and be like "oh yeah this is awesome" when it really isn't. Coloursensational Popsticks are priced at £7.19 and are available from Boots.

Revlon Lip Butter in 025 Peach Parfait

Recently I have been on a mission to find lip products that suit me, as I have never been a massive fan of them. I have tried a number of lipsticks and haven't been too impressed by them - I like the colours but I was finding the formula of a lipstick too drying for my lips. With this in mind, I was recommended Revlon's new Lip Butters, which are described by Revlon as a "buttery balm with beautiful shiny colour to give you baby soft, healthy glowing lips". This sounded perfect for me as I wanted something a little more hydrating than a lipstick without the stickiness of a gloss.

The Lip Butters come in around 14 shades in the UK (there are 20 shades in the US) and there is quite a wide range of colours:

I finally decided on Peach Parfait:

As you can see, the Lip Butters are nicely packaged. The quilted lid makes it look quite high-end, and each shade has a different coloured lid, which makes them easily recognisable. Peach Parfait is a peachy almost pink colour with a hint of gold shimmer. It is quite sheer with one coat but it is easily buildable. The application was really good, it definately hydrates my lips as well as giving them some colour. As you may have read on some other reviews, these melt very easily! This is actually my second Peach Parfait because I left the first one too close to the boyfriends xbox which gets very hot and it melted :( Because of this I wouldn't recommend taking these on holiday unless you are very careful about where you store it. They also last quite a long time too, which I wasn't expecting. I tend to get about 4 hour wear from them, depending on how often you eat/drink etc.

Apologies for the smaller last picture, it was taken with my iPhone. The colour is really pretty and it has become my favourite lip product ever (however this is not hard :P). This shade is really wearable, you can wear it for a night out as well as for work. The shimmer in it makes it really pretty as when the light catches it you can see it glow :)

I absolutely love this. I will definately be purchasing more shades soon :) I personally think that the price tag is completely justified but I have seen some people thinking that they are overpriced so again this comes down to personal opinions.

Natural Collection Lipstick in 'Pink Orchid'

Helloo everyone.

As you may know, I am on a mission to be more experimental with my makeup, and am starting with lipsticks as these are something I do not wear and would really like to try after seeing some fab swatches on some blogs. I blogged about a MUA lipstick the other day, and today I have for you a Natural Collection offering. Natural Collection is exclusively available in Boots and at www.boots.com.

This shade is called 'Pink Orchid' and I thought it was really pretty. It's not a bright, in your face candy pink, it's quite subtle I think, a dark pink with a tiny hint of shimmer in it.(As you can probably tell, I am no good at describing lipstick colours, sorry :S). The application of this was good - it was smooth and glided on well. It wasn't extremely pigmented with one swipe, but easily buildable. It's called a 'Moisture Shine Lipstick' and I do think it lives up to this, it is moisturising and doesn't dry your lips out as well as giving your lips a nice shine.

(Please ignore my gross teeth, and yes I do have wet hair!)

As you can see, the lipstick is subtle but I think it's quite pretty. This picture was taken with 2 'coats' of the lipstick, but it could be built up into a much stronger pink if you so wished.

Overall, I quite like this - I like the colour and the application of the lipstick. I much prefer this to the MUA one I reviewed on Monday, in terms of application and of course colour too. I would definately buy a few more shades from the brand, and at £1.99 each, they're cheap :)
